Industrial CT Scanning of Porous Microstructures
Industrial CT Scanning for Material Analysis
Industrial Computed Tomography is used for a variety of inspection services including material analysis. Micro CT scanners acquire high resolution data for measurements and visualization.
Who knew that polyurethane foam plugs could be so interesting?
The initial, full sample scan was acquired with 6.875 micron resolution.
Sub-micron Scanning Resolution
The secondary scan of this ear plug had a resolution of .915 microns using a “core sample.” This increased resolution allows us to more effectively understand the porous microstructure and how process changes affect it. This sort of visualization requires high resolution, internal scanning technologies.
CT Slice Data of Porous Structure
Visualizing a full sample can be done in several ways. Many clients prefer a simple, uploaded video presentation over more cumbersome applications like an executable file or PDF report with many pages of data.
Measureable Data
The rendered data set of this foam plug can be measured in the 2D slice data, or the 3D scan data. The scan file can be exported in several formats to be 3D printed, imported for FEA, modeling, or measurement software.
